As a child I was never the kid who "taught her teddy bears" because I was too busy practicing my one woman show. In fact, It wasn't until after I had already earned a college degree before I realized the business world wasn't my dream. While earning my public relations degree from Florida State University, I spent time interning and working in the communications industry with large advertising agencies, communications firms, and nonprofits. I quickly learned that my favorite parts of the job were when I was mentoring interns, editing copy, and teaching business leaders about social media and digital marketing instead of actually doing the work itself. I decided to continue my education at F.S.U. by earning my Master of Science in Teaching English Education. While in graduate school, I tutored students from nearly every sport at FSU's Student Athlete Academic Services program. I then went back to my hometown in Southeast Georgia and have worked at my alma mater, Camden County High School, for over 6 years. I was first a contract services tutor working with at-risk students during their credit recovery classes and during summer school. My former principal then hired me to teach 9th grade literature and composition. From then on I've taught not only that course at all our levels (collaborative, college prep, honors, and gifted) but also sections of American literature, marketing management, course extension, and credit recovery. I recently started working at night with a local charter school to offer a path to graduation for students of all ages and backgrounds. I have also served on our PBIS team, HSTW focus team, HSTW steering committee, guidance advisory council, and career day planning committee. My favorite part about teaching high school is getting to watch all the "kids" walk across the stage when graduate each year!
